Paola Di Trocchio is the Assistant Curator, International Fashion and Textiles at the
National Gallery of Victoria. Since 2003 she
has co-curated several exhibitions, including ‘Everlasting: The Flower in Fashion and Textiles’, ‘Abstract Mode: Geometric fashion
and textiles’, ‘Sneakers: Classics to Customs’ and ‘Superbodies: Heroic Fashion of the 1980s’. ‘Black in Fashion: Mourning to Night’ explores the symbolism and enduring use of black in Western fashion. The exhibition draws upon garments and accessories dating from the
mid-nineteenth century to the present. At
NGV International, the exhibition features an examination of the various codes of etiquette that have aligned black with traditional mourning wear. At the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, the exhibition focuses particularly on Melbourne designs.
