Nathan has been working with light since 1974. He has worked with most aspects of lighting; as a roadie in rock and roll, in technical and design roles in theatre, and manufacturing special lighting equipment and related electronics for night clubs. Over the last decade his company, The Flaming Beacon, has focused its attention on independent consulting in the area of architectural lighting, primarily for the hospitality and tourism industries. They still maintain involvement with projects in the areas of art, performance and education, a mix of work that has brought them projects in Europe, North and South America, the Caribbean, Australia, the Middle East, and many East Asian and South-East Asian countries. Nathan is a guest teacher at Melbourne University and has run lighting design workshops at the HfG school of design
at ZKM (Centre for Art and Media) in Karlsruhe, Germany.
