Simon Lloyd was born in Lincolnshire in 1955. Trained in the late 70s, Lloyd attended the London College of Printing and later studied furniture design at High Wycombe, one of the centres of the British furniture industry. Moving to Australia in the mid-80s, Simon worked with Melbourne designer Peter Sands before establishing his own company Sisu in 1995. Optimising material qualities through craft production, Sisu’s refined designs are well received in the UK and Scandinavia. In 2003 Simon was awarded the Grand Prize in the
Jan Ken Pon World Design competition in Gifu, Japan, for a simple dish tailored from industrial felt. Simon continues to exhibit his products widely. Late in 2005 he exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in the exhibition ‘Global Local’.
His work is held in collections including the National Gallery of Australia and the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, Italy.
