After ten years of experience, Mark began his own practice in Sydney in 1997. Mark Gowing Design is a communications studio with clients
in both the corporate and cultural fields, including Hopscotch Films, Euroluce Lighting, The Weather Channel, Inertia Music, NRMA, The Powerhouse Museum, 2SER Radio, Sydney Film Festival and Sherman Galleries. Mark’s work, which explores the potential of pure geometric form and custom typography, has received numerous local and international awards and has been exhibited and published around the world. In 2001, Mark started the independent record label, Preservation Music, with friend Andrew Khedoori. Mark acts as creative director and produces CD packaging with an emphasis on engaging experimentalism.
Mark’s approach to visual communication is driven by the belief that good design is simple honesty and, while good design is good business, it also demands cultural responsibility.
